Scandia-Hus was delighted to be chosen to construct the new eco-building for Ashurst Wood Pre-School in West Sussex. The pre-school committee who raised funds for the project were impressed by Scandia’s approach, the fast installation time of a timber-frame construction and the quality of a similar Scandia scheme in Lingfield, Surrey which they had visited.

Work began onsite in September 2013 with the construction team working carefully to ensure minimal disruption to the school day as  the site for the pre-school is situated within the grounds of Ashurst Wood Primary School.

The building’s timber-frame and panels were manufactured at Scandia-Hus’ own factory in Billingshurst, West Sussex and the factory’s shell erection team assembled the kit onsite. The wood used in the frame and panels comes from a sustainable resource in Scandinavia. To help produce low running costs, the building needed to be energy efficient and Scandia were able to do this by using panels with high levels of insulation as well as quality glazing and doors.

The pre-school building provides the following areas; a large multifunctional room, kitchen, toilets and an office. Outside of the main room is a decking area which will allow the children to enjoy outdoor play.

The new permanent home for Ashurst Wood Pre-School was handed over to the committee 9 weeks ahead of schedule by Scandia-Hus Managing Director Derek Dawson and Project Manager Jeff Willis on 30th December 2013.  The children will start using the building when they return on 6th January 2014.

“We were thrilled to be involved with the project to build a new facility for Ashurst Wood Pre-School. Scandia enjoyed working closely with the committee and community to help provide a Pre-School that will be used by many generations to come.”
