After more than 30 years designing and supplying the highest possible quality homes to our customers, Scandia-Hus have gained a reputation as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of the timber-frame world, and there is no doubt that the quality of our materials and service is second to none.

However, not everyone wishes to build to quite such a high specification and some self-builders may prefer a more hands-on approach to the building of their new home. Therefore, in order to help such customers to acquire a high quality timber frame, but with the choice of a less complete ‘package’ and a reduced amount of personal service, Scandia-Hus have set up a sister company, the Self-Build House Company, which provides more of a ‘no frills’ service at a lower cost.

The company was established in 1998 in order to put Scandia’s knowledge and experience to use in assisting self-builders wishing to take on more responsibility for the individual project management of the construction of their new home from the groundwork up.

The Self-Build House Company’s frames are manufactured at the Scandia-Hus Group factory in Sussex and the company is able to provide the timber chassis, which forms the major single element of your house, to any specification. You will then have the option of purchasing the balance of the materials for your new home from any source, or appointing SBHC to provide this for you. You can elect to do as much or as little of this work as you wish – turning the venture into a hands-on self-build project, or appointing a project manager or a builder to manage the build for you.
