Scandia-Hus Case Studies -

Stylish & Comfortable Inn Accommodation

As well as an impressive range of indivual self-builds, Scandia-Hus is also known for its outstanding commercial developments.

Take the Three Tuns in Great Abington.

Chris and Karen Adomeit couldn’t resist the opportunity of buying the Three Tuns village watering hole when it became available for sale. The 450 year old picturesque pub was not achieving its full potential before they took over ownership with very few customers frequenting the premises. Five years on and it couldn’t have been a more different story.

What a turn around! From a failing village pub, Chris and Karen have turned the Three Tuns into a delightful award-winning public house and Thai restaurant with customers visiting from miles and miles around. Nowadays, the bar and kitchen staff are rushed off their feet with the Three Tuns being packed every lunchtime and evening.

Such was the success that Chris and Karen decided to make the most of the plot and build stylish overnight accommodation on a section of the pub garden. They weren’t complete novices to self-build as, almost 10 years ago, they seriously looked into self-building but felt the time wasn’t quite right. Knowing that they wanted a Timber Frame build, they chose Scandia-Hus.

Project Manager, David Thompson, discussed their requirements with them and submitted a design which matched their exact requirements and successfully achieved planning permission.

They now benefit from accommodation comprising of five elegant and charming double bedroom suites. The stunning rooms are each finished to an impeccable standard and all benefit from air conditioning/underfloor heating, 37’ flatscreen HDTV with Freeview, Free Wi-Fi Internet access, Luxurious king size Millbrook beds, tea and coffee making facilities and a stunning en-suite bathroom with a spacious shower.

As part of the renovation, all available space in the pub was maximized for business and living accommodation resulting in a need for extra storage. Chris and Karen therefore opted to have a basement as part of the guest accommodation which takes up almost the full footprint of the building.

Chris, Karen and their customers are delighted with the result – so much so that talks are already underway to build additional suites to accommodate the demand. Watch this space…
