Build Diary step by step

Work began at the end of 2006 on this project. Our customer wanted a new home and, as he loved the area he lived in, decided to build his new new home in place of his existing one. The first thing we had to do was demolish the existing dwelling. The area was cleared creating a base on which to build his dream home. Step 1 footage was filmed mid December 2006.

The beginning of 2007, and work began on building the new house. The scaffolding was erected and care was taken to protect the landscape which will remain with the new build. The first kit was delivered with rigid insulation and breather paper pre-fitted at the factory. The external panels and steel supports were craned into the site. Erection of the internal studs began in preparation for the partitions. Step 2 footage was filmed at the beginning of January.

Mid January 2007, and work has already progressed to the next floors. The steel and attic trusses were craned into position to provide further accommodation on the 2nd floor, within the roof space. Erection of further internal load bearing stud walls continues. Step 3 footage was filmed in the middle of January.

Early February 2007 and work continues at a rapid pace. All external and internal load bearing walls are erected and braced. The first and top floor panels are in place. Step 4 footage was filmed at the beginning of February.

Late February 2007 - all windows have been fitted and the roof cross batons are in place. Care continues to be taken to protect the trees, all of which have preservation orders. Internal works continue apace. Step 5 footage was filmed at the end of February.

Mid March 2007 - externally, the roof tiles are being laid. Internally, the electrics have had their first fix and the plasterboard is being fixed. Step 6 footage was filmed in the middle of March.

Mid April 2007 - externally, the roof tiling is now complete. Internally, the downlighters to the ground floor have been fire-proofed, the first fix carpentry on the first and second floors is complete and the first fix plumbing is complete.Step 7 footage was filmed in the middle of April.

Mid May 2007 - the cabling has been put in place for the audio visual system, which will be used throughout the house. The underfloor heating has been installed. Insulation continues apace and the internal carpentry is near to completion. The link from the garage to the house, via the utility area, is almost complete. Step 8 footage was filmed in the middle of May.

During the Summer months, work continued apace both internally and externally. The internal carpentry is now complete. Filming took place in mid Summer for Step 9 and late Summer for Step 10.

Early Autumn 2007 - efforts are now being concentrated on the internal aspects of the build. The kitchen has been fitted and work on the interior continues apace in preparation for completion of the project.

November 2007 - all external works are now complete. The total in-house electrical system has been installed and the bathrooms are in place with the bathrooms tiled. The staircase is in place and the wrought iron balustrades and oak handrails are soon to be delivered.

January 2008 - work continues on the finishing touches for the interior and landscaping has begun on the rear garden, with the turfing and patio area being completed.
